PIERRE SAINT-JEAN
The French critic and art historian Pierre Saint-Jean first sat for Hockney after conducting an interview with him in 1983. Hockney produced a series of five portraits of him (see below) the following summer, initiating an ongoing personal and working relationship. The portrait being offered by e-fineart.com is one from the series of only five portraits. These drawings were subsequently shown in Dialogue avec Picasso at the Musée Picasso, Paris in 1999. Saint-Jean has been responsible for translating several Hockney catalogues into French. He also make a film about the artist with Monique Lajournade, David Hockney in Perspective (1998), which explores the artist’s work in the setting of his Los Angeles home and studio.
